Late to the party, as usual, but I finally watched the mid-season finale of White Collar last night.

Let's do the not-so-shallow stuff first for once.

I saw this meme on [personal profile] topaz119's journal and thought I'd throw it out there:

Pick one of my fics, and I'll give you three details that didn't make it into the fic. Background canon, deleted scenes, or a look into the future. My choice, but if you have a specific question you can ask it in your request.

(I actually just updated this list, or it's all on AO3)

Happy weekend everyone!

Happy Suits renewal day, folks! For whatever reason, this is the longest thing I've written in quite some time.

Title: dancing on the legs of a new-born pony.
Pairing: Harvey/Mike
Rating: pg-13 (barely)
Genre: h/c. straight-up and shameless.
Spoilers: maybe a tiny one for 1x06, certainly takes place before 1x07
Word count: ~7.7K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.
a/n: for the “broken bones” square on my hc_bingo card.
a/n: many thanks to [personal profile] linaerys for the extremely helpful beta.
a/n: title from “U.R.A. Fever” by The Kills because apparently this vid has joined song and show inextricably in my mind

Summary: In which Harvey breaks his arm and Mike has a caretaker streak as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Still incredibly saddened and disturbed by the violence in the UK over the past few days, though things seem to have been quieter last night. A few editorial pieces, if you're interested (my own politics showing here, I'm afraid).

Zygmunt Bauman, "On consumerism coming home to roost" (from Social Europe)

Cameron's broken windows (from the NYTimes)

Hoping everyone and their loved ones have come things safely.

Title: Stars Hide Your Fires
Rating: NC-17
Pairing/fandom: Charles/Erik, XMFC
Word count: ~2.8K
Warnings: sexual arousal from punishment (RACK). Minor rimming and bloodplay.
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.
a/n: for the “caning” square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card
a/n: title from Macbeth by way of Mumford and Sons.
a/n: many thanks to [personal profile] linaerys for the beta!

Summary: Suddenly, Charles seemed to notice what Erik was holding. He came nearer, put his left hand between Erik’s on the birch rod. Time to let go, Erik told himself. But he didn’t. And so they stayed like that, both holding it, so close Erik could feel the iron eddying in Charles’s blood. The thing that was always between them snapped and quivered like a banner in a gale.

for all you past, present or future grad students out there--and those who love them :)

Does it help to know that the guy is now researching a malaria vaccine?

The good thing about a couple of days of 102 degree weather? When a few drops of rain bring the temperature down to 92, it feels positively autumnal.

So, this meme was doing the rounds weeks ago, and [livejournal.com profile] linaerys gave me this great set of questions. Finally, almost a month later, I have answers, though I think they reveal me to be the pretentious and overly serious person I am in my non-fannish life. I usually try to shield y'all from this aspect of me, sorry! Feel free to defriend me now that it's been revealed.

Or, hit me up for questions! I am home this week, and I would love to find out more about you guys:

Comment with "Come at me, sweet thang [or your favorite endearment]," and:
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

Also, if anyone wants to ask me questions, feel free.

Posting before I lose courage. This was way too hard to write for such fluff, y’all, for reasons that are unclear to me. Maybe it’s the telepathy, but Charles is so much more difficult for me to write than Erik. Though I do love a character who can make endless literary allusions. I didn’t mean it to be quite the h/c porn that it is. It’s not porn—there’s hardly even any touching—but, well, porn just the same.

Title: Every Man His Lion
Fandom: XMFC
Rating: PG, gen, even if it is quite slashy gen.
Characters: Charles, Erik.
Genre: shameless h/c.
Warnings/Spoilers: n/a, though it is a missing scene for the movie, I guess—slotting in after the “there’s more to you than that” scene.
Word Count: ~2.6K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: For this prompt over at Running Hot, and for the “trust issues” square on my [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card. And kind of because [livejournal.com profile] norgbelulah wondered where the all comfort was in the other XMFC fic I wrote.

Summary: Erik is ill. Charles tries to help him sleep.

Just in case you missed this floating around the interwebz this morning: the trailer for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I'll sum up the cast of this movie so you'll know not to blink when you watch it: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Tom Hardy, John Hurt (& etc.). Don't blink.

I may have mentioned (several hundred times) how much I like the novel and the 1970s BBC miniseries. But this one looks pretty spectacular--and beautifully cast. I didn't think I could really accept anybody but Alec Guinness as Smiley, but Gary Oldman seems to have inherited the commemorative Guinness frames, so I'm prepared to be convinced. I recently listened to an audio version of it in the car, and I got worried that they would cut the character BC plays down to nothing. But that also doesn't seem to be the case.

And, if case you haven't seen the trailer for A Dangerous Method, here it is. This movie stars Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung and Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud. No. Really. And Keira Knightly as Sabine Spilrein. The movie looks slightly OTT (there is caning), but the story is OTT, and fascinating, so I have hope.

Both boys are in outdoor camps this week, so I have been spending a lot of time in the car delivering them and fetching them back. It has cut into my work/writing time, but it's also given me a chance to listen to Smiley's People and the first new Gillian Welch album in 8 years. It is awesome--it was worth the wait.

Title: Libertad
Fandom: XMFC
Character: Erik Lehnsherr
Rating: PG (themes of grief and loss)
Warnings/Spoilers: n/a--takes place during the years the movie skips.
Word Count: ~1.5K
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit.

a/n: the Kol Nidre is the opening part of the Yom Kippur evening service. The Aramaic chant is also called “All Vows,” since it begs that the congregants be forgiven for vows they have taken in the past year. It is repeated three times by the cantor; the congregation’s response is also chanted three times. Yom Kippur is the Jewish Day of Atonement, and is observed as a fast day from sundown to sundown.
a/n: The idea for this comes entirely from [livejournal.com profile] linaerys. She didn’t really mean it as a prompt, but was very gracious about letting me write it when I pounced on it snarling and refused to let it go. And then she beta’d it for me. Many thanks, bb!

Summary: Erik knew the look, had seen it his whole life, even before the war. ”You, with your height and blue eyes and straight nose, you can pass. You can be free of us. You are not marked with your difference.” If you only knew, he’d thought then. He thought the same thing now. And it was that thought, as much as anything, that made him move towards the gate.

Just a PSA to let you know that Running Hot is still simmering along in a low-grade but awesome kind of way. If you haven't looked at the Master List lately, check it out! There are new wonderful fills for Merlin, NCIS, Firefly, Dr. Who and lots and lots of White Collar.

There are also lots of new prompts--for things like Chuck, Criminal Minds, and yes, X-Men First Class. Prompting is still open, too. Click the banner to get to the meme itself.

nb: I'll be out of town for the rest of the week, so may be a little slow about updating the master list. But I will catch up when I get back.

Happy reading and writing!

So I got an [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card, on the premise that I enjoyed writing the fics last year, and the stipulation (to myself) that I not write any fever!fic, because, um, kind a broken record with that....

But, then, in some kind of karmic punishment for biting off more than I can chew, I got a card I can't see much immediate inspiration in at all.

I have one of those Saturdays to myself I get once in a while, and that seems to make me want to do memes ;)

Here's one I've never tried, and I have no idea if anybody has any interest, but I'll leave it up for a while.

(snagged from [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan)

DVD Commentary Meme.

Take a look at my Master List, and see if there are any stories or a genres you'd like to ask me a question about.

Pick a passage from my stories, up to 500 words, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the story, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

You can ask me anything - character motivation, writing process, or if you disagree with the direction I took in a story, ask me to defend it.

(as you probably know or have guessed, I have a tendency to overthink everything, so I guarantee I'll have something to say--I will try hard to avoid being long and boring in my answers :))

Title: Thy firmness makes my circle just.
Fandom: White Collar
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Peter/Neal
Spoilers: None. Takes place sometime before the events of the end of S2.
Warnings: involuntary arousal of the sex-pollen variety; captivity; semi-public sex; fever!sex.
Word Count: ~4K
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit, no offense meant.

a/n: This is for a prompt from [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 at Running Hot: Would love Neal or Peter infected with some sort of plot-cakey sex pollen, and he spikes a dangerous fever that can only be relieved by, um, you know... . I don’t know if this scenario counts as the sex-pollen trope, but there’s involuntary arousal, fever and, um, relief. So. If something can be shameless h/c and shameless porn at the same time, this is probably it.
a/n: I think there are consent issues here of the “giving consent while not in possession of one’s full faculties” variety—so please don’t read it that’s a trigger or something that bugs you.
a/n: title from John Donne’s “Valediction Forbidding Mourning.”

Summary: If he’d seen Peter look this vulnerable more than once before, he couldn’t remember it. It was worrying, and it tilted the natural order of the universe on its axis. But more than that, it brought emotions to the surface that Neal usually liked to keep buried deep, a fierce tenderness the most respectable among them.

It occurred to me that I haven’t said anything about the last three episodes of Camelot, despite the fact that I’ve enjoyed them more than one probably should. But this week’s episode had me snort-chortling at my screen at least three times, probably three and a half, so I thought I’d remedy things.

I know y'all've been waiting with baited breath. I will try to be as succinct as possible.

Characters: Jenna, Kono.
Word count: ~2.6K
Spoilers/warnings: takes place after 1.24
