I've spent hours on this when I should've been doing other things--not sure why, or if it merited the attention. I meant it to be a little less silly and a little more shippy, but there you go. Posting it in journals only for now, to meet the challenge deadline; I need to britpick some of the idiom before I post to AO3.

Title: Swim Until You Can't See Land
Fandom: Rivers of London
Rating: G
Characters: Thomas Nightingale, Dr. Walid (pre-series)
Spoilers: none for the novels
Warnings: discussion of suicide
Word count: ~4.2K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

nb: This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo February amnesty challenge. The challenge was to write one fic using three prompts and a wildcard. My prompts were: hypothermia, hallucinations, loss of identity and (as the wild card), PTSD. Note that loss of identity here is more like losing one identity and gaining a new one.
nb: also using it for the "bed-sharing" square on my [community profile] trope_bingo card.
nb: title from the Frightened Rabbit song of the same name. Scottish band in honor of Dr. Walid.

Summary: It always amused Abdul that he, who so disdained flowery language, could begin the story of his greatest friendship with the phrase, “it was a dark and stormy night.”

Title: Happy Families
Fandom: Lewis
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Robbie/Laura (mostly background); Robbie/James; Robbie/James/Laura (not explicit)
Spoilers: Set post-S7
Word count: 6,844

a/n: written for the [livejournal.com profile] lewis_challenge Summer Challenge and for the "learning to be loved" square on my hc_bingo card.
a/n: thanks to [personal profile] thirdbird and [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc for the extremely helpful betas, and to [personal profile] clarasteam, [livejournal.com profile] entangled_now, and [livejournal.com profile] thesmallhobbit for help with brit-picking. All remaining mistakes my own!

Summary: Tolstoy was wrong.

This is fever!fic, but not, sadly for Running Hot. I wanted to finish the May challenge for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo, which was to write something for a tiny fandom using one of four prompts. The prompt I used was "loss of voice." But now--now!--I am going to try and write something for Running Hot III--H50 maybe, or Grimm.

Title: Born to Live Without You
Fandom: Endeavour (BBC)
Rating: PG--maybe PG-13
Word count: ~2.6k
Warnings/Spoilers: slight spoilers for 1x04
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit

Summary: “I thought men your age got this way about their secretaries,” said Win. “Not their bagmen.”

I think, I'm almost definitely sure, that I'm going to run "Running Hot III" (the fever!fic prompt fest I've done the past two years) later this month.

I'm not sure how many people are still posting/reading on LJ/DW, but, it's been fun the past two times, and even if there's smaller participation, we can still have fun, yeah? This year, though, I will definitely put up posts on both LJ and DW, so people can prompt/post either place. We also, as of last year, have an AO3 collection, so posting is possible there, too.

So: WATCH THIS SPACE around MAY 22-23!! (I want to wait until after Star Trek: Into Darkness comes out, so that there's at least one giant new exciting fan-event to write about).

Here are the masterlists from the past two years, in case you want to refresh your memory as to what it's all about: 2010, 2012.

Also: I was so excited that I completed the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo April challenge, that I signed up for the May challenge: which is to write a story for a tiny/Yuletide-sied fandom for one of the following prompts. Now, you might say the bigger challenge for me would be to write fic for a fandom that wasn't tiny, and you'd be right, but still, I couldn't resist.

pandemics and epidemics suicide attempt
loss of voice disappearing

Y'all know what tiny fandoms I like and what prompt I'm particularly tempted by here--any ideas?

Title: Phantaguesia
Rating: PG (with violent combat imagery), gen
Genre: h/c
Warnings: This is a fic about PTSD and triggers. If you'd like to know what the triggers are before reading, the warning is in the end notes on AO3.
Spoilers: none, set during S1
Word count: ~4.5K
Disclaimer: Neither these characters nor these stories are mine. Further references in the end notes on AO3.

a/n: for the "PTSD" square on my hc_bingo card.
a/n: thank you to [personal profile] garryowen for the beta. all remaining mistakes my own.
a/n: further notes with the fic.

Summary: Some things take a while to go away.

And this is...me managing to post one lone bingo fill as my fic output for the entire month of September. At least it's the double-penetration square for kink_bongo, which I've been dreading concerned about. Maybe someday in the future I will write a kink bingo fill that is sexy, as opposed to just kind of weird. This is not that day.

Title: Skin I've Been Through Dies Behind Me
Fandom: Copper
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Eva/Corky/Maguire
Warnings/spoilers: spoilers through 1x04
Word Count: ~1.5K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: title from Townes Van Zandt's "Snake Song," but I was really thinking of the Emmy Lou Harris cover of the song in Lawless.
a/n: for the "double penetration" square on my kink_bingo card

Summary: Eva invites Corky and Maguire into her bed.

I've been lurking around this fandom for months: here is my first fic!

Title: As Holy Palmers Kiss
Fandom: Lewis
Pairing: Lewis/Hathaway
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: n/a
Word count: ~2.4K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: for the "writing on the body" square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card.
a/n: thanks to [personal profile] thirdbird for the beta! Any remaining mistakes my own.

Summary: Lewis doesn't fancy a second career as a writing pad. Hathaway has other ideas.

Title: The Things They Wore
Fandom: Generation Kill
Rating: hard R or NC-17
Pairing: Brad/Ray
Word count: ~1.5K
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit, no reference to real people intended.
a/n: For the "uniforms/military kink" on my [community profile] kink_bingo card. This is a slightly odd take on the prompt--there's some context for what inspired me here, if you're curious.
a/n: The fic has a mix of details from the book and the HBO series.
a/n: Titled with apologies to Tim O'Brien, whose writing I love.
a/n: Many thanks to [personal profile] thirdbird for a speedy and super helpful beta!
a/n: Thanks also to pun for hosting a rewatch this summer, which got me to finally see the show.

Summary: "The odor of this many Recon Marines--it's a powerful thing."

Just under the wire, the last square on my h/c bingo card! De-aging, y'all: file under tropes I never thought I'd write.

Title: Gaius Redux: or, The Holiday
Fandom: Merlin
Rating: G
Warnings: n/a
Word count: ~3.3K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: for the "de-aging" square on my h/c bingo card.
a/n: takes place at some vague time between S3 and S4 when Lancelot is around and Uther is still alive.

Summary: “A holiday from being old. Just one day when everything works the way it's supposed to.”

Apologies to anyone who saw this go up in a mangled state on AO3 last night--I was trying to get it in under the [community profile] kink_bingo deadline...It's complete over there now, and this is a cleaned up version.

I was hoping this would be longer, and a satisfactory resolution to the events of "In Any Tongue," but I ran out of time, and it ended up being pretty much a piece of fluff. There may have to be one more fic in this series. Apologies also for the lack of historical detail. If there are any glaring historical errors, PM me.

Title: Narbo Martius
Rating: R
Pairing: Esca/Marcus
Warnings: Set after the end of the film; also, see notes.
Word Count: ~2K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: for the "vehicular" square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card.
a/n: this fic follows In Any Tongue and With Our Arms Unbound --but I don't think it's necessary to have read those to read this one.
a/n: I've borrowed the Narbo Martius horse fair from Sutcliff's Sword at Sunset. The deleted scenes shows movie!Marcus to be as good a charioteer as book!Marcus. I've also used the alternate ending of the movie.

Summary: An old friend lets Marcus and Esca test his chariot team.

So, I was having a weirdly hard time trying to figure out what to write for the "medical kink" square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card. And then Downton Abbey went and dumped a scenario in my lap. Spoilers for 2x02!

Title: Bandaging
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thomas Barrow/Edward Courtenay
Spoilers: Missing scene for 2x02.
Warnings: a little bit of medical ickiness.
Word count: ~1.8K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: for the “medical kink” square on my kink_bingo card.

Summary: Bandages are just like any other linen. The human form is just another parcel to be wrapped. The only art is in making things tidy and secure.

So, I owe at least three or four people fic, but I haven't written anything for weeks, and have been in a major state of I can't, I can't, I can't. And apparently the only way around that was to write fic about completely new characters in a fandom that barely exists. Apologies, and hoping this jumpstarts those other projects.

Also sorry about the cop-out ending here--I might come back to it at some point.

nb: I'll post something more review-y about the show itself tomorrow.

Title: looking for vines and olive trees
Rating: pg-13
Characters, pairings: established Bel/Hector, Freddie (pre-Hector/Bel/Freddie, if you’re in the right frame of mind).
Spoilers: none really, but it works best if you imagine it taking place around 1x05
Word count: ~2.8K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: title adapted from the first two lines of Auden’s The Shield of Achilles, published the same year as the Suez Crisis. There’s an unmarked allusion to the poem at the end of the fic as well.
a/n: for the “cuddling” square on my [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card, though this is one of those h/c fills that looks like it wandered in from my kink_bingo card. There’s always one, eh?

Summary:

“Christ,” Freddie said, trying to calculate what immense quantity of drink it had taken to reduce a great slab of military-trained manhood like Hector Madden to such a sorry state.

“Quite,” said Bel.

Happy Suits renewal day, folks! For whatever reason, this is the longest thing I've written in quite some time.

Title: dancing on the legs of a new-born pony.
Pairing: Harvey/Mike
Rating: pg-13 (barely)
Genre: h/c. straight-up and shameless.
Spoilers: maybe a tiny one for 1x06, certainly takes place before 1x07
Word count: ~7.7K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.
a/n: for the “broken bones” square on my hc_bingo card.
a/n: many thanks to [personal profile] linaerys for the extremely helpful beta.
a/n: title from “U.R.A. Fever” by The Kills because apparently this vid has joined song and show inextricably in my mind

Summary: In which Harvey breaks his arm and Mike has a caretaker streak as wide as the Grand Canyon.

So I got an [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card, on the premise that I enjoyed writing the fics last year, and the stipulation (to myself) that I not write any fever!fic, because, um, kind a broken record with that....

But, then, in some kind of karmic punishment for biting off more than I can chew, I got a card I can't see much immediate inspiration in at all.

Title: “A line that is always running”
Rating: pg-13 (for language); gen.
Warnings/Spoilers: takes place after 1.06: “All-In.”
Word Count: ~5.5K

Summary: What happens in Staten Island stays in Staten Island.

a/n: for the prompt “build-up of job-related trauma” on my h/c bingo card.
a/n: Peter wears a Le Moyne t-shirt in “Bottlenecked” (Le Moyne is a Jesuit college in Syracuse, and TdeK’s alma mater)—so at least one thing in this is canon.
a/n: title from “Cousins” by Vampire Weekend.

One more Holmes/Watson fic I had to get out of my system before starting other projects....

Title: The Old Complaint
Rating/warnings: PG-13. Holmes/Watson established relationship. The rating is for the smallest bit of dirty talk.
Word Count: ~5.8K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

Summary: Whenever Holmes told the story later, he always paused at this point and said, “and that’s when everything descended into farce,” with a dry chuckle. At the time, however, it had not seemed a laughing matter.

a/n: a fill for the “bodyguards” prompt on my [livejornal.com profile] hc_bingo card.
a/n: the term “bodyguard” has had its present meaning since 1704.
a/n: movie!verse characterizations, I’m afraid.
a/n: much gratitude, as always, to my wonderful beta, [livejournal.com profile] calamitycrow
