Oh wow...I see I haven't posted since the middle of March. I knew it had been a while, but I didn't realize it had been that long. Oops. It's been a busy spring, I guess.

In the meantime, the [community profile] rarelywritten archive went live yesterday, and I got the most lovely Imperial Radch fic from [personal profile] teaotter. It's a beautifully written piece that manages to be both a slice-of-life glimpse of the world aboard Mercy of Kalr and take on some of the bigger existential questions of the novels.

whatever a sun will always sing (1107 words) by Teaotter
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Imperial Radch Series - Ann Leckie
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kalr Five & Mercy of Kalr
Characters: Kalr Five, Mercy of Kalr
Summary:

Old dreams, new opportunities: Kalr Five has a choice to make.

I wrote two fics for the challenge, my assignment and a pinch hit. My assignment was an Imperial Radch fic for [personal profile] teaotter, which means we wrote for each other--something that's never happened to me before.

Benefit (2308 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Imperial Radch Series - Ann Leckie
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply

Summary:

“How can it be, that you, who’ve worn so many faces, should remain always the same, while I, who’ve had the same face for a thousand years, have changed so much that I am unrecognizable to myself?”

And then I picked up a Cabin Pressure pinch hit, because Cabin Pressure pinch hits are the best. I had a great time writing this one.

Every dog has an origin story.

Okay, hope everyone's doing well out there in DW/LJ-land. More soon, I hope!

Then, I picked up these as a pinch hit. I wrote them very quickly, so they are of questionable quality, but I loved looking at the Tommy/Alfie pairings (and thinking about how Alfie might have been involved with 1920s Palestine), and of course, Tommy & Ada :)

Over a month ago, I expressed a desire to write some shameless h/c, and [personal profile] d_generate_girl suggested I write some for Peaky Blinders. Many weeks later, I ended up this, which is h/c of a kind, but also one of the grimmest things I've ever written. Sorry?

Many thanks to [personal profile] d_generate_girl, though, for beta'ing, and helping me out with it enormously!

The overflow of my Yuletide writing roll, I guess.

I didn't sign up for [community profile] fandom_stocking, but I signed up for the call for volunteers to help fill them. I only managed to write one ficlet, though:

On Folly Bridge (1555 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch, X-Men (Movies)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Charles Xavier, Thomas Nightingale, Isis
Additional Tags: Crossover
Summary:

Oxford 1962: Late one night, Charles sees something new.

And this I really wanted to write as a Yuletide treat, but I ran out of time:

Open hand or closed fist (would be fine). (1060 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Honourable Woman
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Atika Halabi/Nessa Stein
Additional Tags: Captivity
Summary:

For a moment, Atika gives Nessa her body back.

That's probably it for the season. I have an urge to write some shameless, old-fashioned h/c, though, so if you want to enable me give me an excuse, suggests some characters/tropes in comments!

Here's the fic I wrote for [community profile] crossovering. It was hard as hell to write, and I'm not sure it was worth it. But I've now posted more Sherlock fic to AO3 than SPN fic, so there's that.

A Study in Madder (6974 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sherlock (TV), Merlin (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Greg Lestrade, Mycroft Holmes, Anthea (Sherlock), Merlin (Merlin), Arthur Pendragon (Merlin), Gaius (Merlin), Uther Pendragon (Merlin)
Additional Tags: Episode: s01e01 A Study in Pink, but in Camelot
Summary:

When John Watson returned to Camelot after a long absence, he made three vows.

The first of these, to turn his face from violence, he broke almost immediately. Mere days after re-entering the kingdom, he found himself standing once more over a dead body.

Remixes

Still away, but wanted to post the remixes I did this year.

Turn Me Off, Turn Me Over, Turn Me Upside Down (the Right Above It Remix) (1941 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sherlock (TV)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Additional Tags: First Time, Sleepy Sex
Summary:

Sherlock had the most absurd desire to come to John clean.

This was my main assignment, and I struggled with it a bit, but I think mostly because the only time I write John/Sherlock these days is for remix. I loved the original story, especially the porny parts, and so I didn't want to try and redo those at all. The fic turned out better than I feared, though. Totally identifiable as mine because of the dissociation, I thought--it seems to be the only way I can write Sherlock in this pairing.

Everybody Needs a Friend Sometimes (the Have a Banana remix) (2233 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Cabin Pressure
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Martin Crieff, Douglas Richardson, Carolyn Knapp-Shappey, Arthur Shappey
Additional Tags: Hurt/Comfort
Summary:

Everyone at MJN helps out when Martin takes ill.

This was a pinch-hit and I jumped on the chance to remix some Cabin Pressure fic. Lothiriel84's lovely Pneumonia!Martin ficlet was absolute, shameless,id catnip to me, needless to say, and this was a blast to write. Those of you who know me will not be surprised to hear that writing Douglas POV was the best part.

Trip has gone better than I expected, but still looking forward to being home late tonight.
ariadnes_string: (Default)
Huh. AO3 tells me I've posted five fics so far this month. This can only mean one thing: I have been avoiding work!

Anyway, for the record, for [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts this year, I wrote two Sleepy Hollow fics (my first in the fandom) and one Sherlock fic. The rules of the exchange are that the stories need to be under 1,000 words, and, in honor of the holiday, must concern either 1)a Jewish character, 2) a female character, or 3) characters defeating an Evil Vizier. I like it best when I get matched so that I can write about Jewish characters, but I enjoy writing about ladies, too, as I did this year.

Household Pests (945 words) by ariadnes_string

No Wilderness with You (970 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sleepy Hollow (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ichabod Crane & Abbie Mills
Additional Tags: Collection: Purimgifts Day 2, Grooming, Hair Brushing

Passages (343 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sleepy Hollow (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Abbie Mills & Jenny Mills
Additional Tags: Collection: Purimgifts Day 3, Character Study
Summary:

Sometimes Jenny dreams she’s on a ship.

This year, I received a fascinating XMFC story, In Which Meir Kahane Gave Magneto a Bloody Nose (with parts 2 and 3). Two of my favorite things about XMFC are its exploration of Erik's uneasy relationship to his Jewish identity/heritage, and the way it maps mutant politics onto other issues of the twentieth century: this story does both!

nb: my other two March fics are a Rivers of London story and another Sherlock story, this one Sherlock/Mary.

I am off for work travel tomorrow, and won't really be back until 3/30. See y'all next month!
ariadnes_string: (Steve-Danny-boat)
Here, for the very last night of Chanukah, is one more fic. With three fics posted, I did about as well as I usually did for this (self) challenge. Sigh. If I didn't get to your prompt, I may still--though possibly not until after Yuletide.

This one is for [livejournal.com profile] kristen999

Title: We walk the same path, but got on different shoes
Fandom: H50

Word Count: 1.3K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit
a/n: title from Lil Wayne's "Right Above It" (but I might change it)

Summary: Four days since Steve had been found, two since he’d come home from the hospital, and he was still wandering around his own home like it was unknown terrain.

We walk the same path, but got on different shoes

I haven't written H50 fic for a while, so to get myself in the mood I unearthed this wonderful older vid by Nel--check it out if you haven't seen it before, or if you haven't seen it for a while: One Week

Posting my [livejournal.com profile] intoabar fic before I take off for a week. The prompt was "James Hathaway walks into a bar and meets...the Pirate Captain."

Thanks to everyone for the help and encouragement with this! And apologies for the cheapness of some of the shots.

You'd think I wouldn't have another sick!Steve fic left in me (I can't even bear to count up how many I've written). But apparently you'd be wrong.

In any case, though, I've finally written something for Running Hot III. The funny thing is, I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] hawaii_50_hc "alphabet challenge" and I got "R" for "relax." I couldn't for the life of me think of something to go with that prompt. But this fic would fit it perfectly #toolittletoolate

Title: Track Record

This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo April challenge: to write crossover fic for at least one of four given prompts. My prompts were burns, torture, motion sickness and accidental soul-bonding. All four made their way into the fic, though the soul-bonding is canonical and happens off stage.

Here's my fic for [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts. No opportunity to write a Jewish character this year, but I thought, well, Kono and Chin are cousins just like Esther and Mordecai, so why not!

Title: Kuini Hou (The New Queen)
Rating: PG, gen
Word Count: ~3K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: loosely based on The Book of Esther.
a/n: the terms of the exchanges were three ficlets, each not to exceed 1,000 words. I've kept to the word limits in reposting, even though, obviously, the story could be much longer.

Title: Flu Protocol
Fandom: MI:4
Rating: PG, gen
Genre: fluff, h/c
Warnings/spoilers: nope.
Word count: ~1.7K
Disclaimer: These characters are not mine, and I am making no profit through this endeavor.

a/n: for this prompt at [livejournal.com profile] ghotocol_kink and originally posted there.

Summary: “Poison,” Benji had declared, when he and Jane and Brandt had started sneezing almost simultaneously. Which had seemed unlikely—who would choose a poison designed to basically ache and sniffle and annoy you to death? But then the four of them getting sick at the same time had seemed pretty unlikely too.

It's been an exhausting week and next week promises to be no better. But I wanted to write something--so here, have some h/c, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67's lovely piece of OT3, Lullaby. It's an episode tag for "Game Ogre."

Re-posting the [livejournal.com profile] xover_exchange fic I've been whining about. I don't like it as much as the stabs I made at the same xover here and here. But, unlike those ficlets, it has a plot of sorts :)
