For some reason, I'm determined to finish my kink_bingo card by Wed. Here's the fourth out of five, in another extremely obscure fandom. The fifth, with any luck, will be super fluffy Lewis fic.

Ah, ok. Do you sometimes tire of all these high concept YA novels? I just want a good old-fashioned story that doesn't rely on a big idea.

omg,I can barely stand them! I read the Hunger Games b/c son #1 read them, and enjoyed them--but it set me off on my usual rant about books structured like games. I also tend not to like zombie apocalypse/post-apocalypse narratives b/c doesn't history already offer us all the dystopias we'd ever want? And I don't like narratives that imply if you think of the right answer or make the right move everything will be okay--because,again, history begs to differ.

But we listened to the first Divergent book in the car, and I was interested enough to go on to the second, even though the boys didn't follow me. A strand of the plot is about mirror neurons, which was enough to keep me going. So, sometime I guess I do like them...

Yay fic!! I am making my slow way through 2x01 right now.

I agree with you. I dislike that about HP, but the characters are great, as is the world-building, so I put up with the bullshit. When I first read them, I was, like, "But Harry defeats Voldemort by sheer CHANCE." And then, yeah, it's all over.

You are close to the part where Wallander is Very Fucked Up. I rewatched it the other night. Gnumf.

No, HP gets a partial exemption for superb characterization (as does THG, though the characterization isn't quite as good). It's just something that makes me rant even as I'm enjoying something (rant at my own susceptibility to narrative manipulation), and cause me to be Too Critical of Books, as son #1 puts it.

Ugh, it's so cold and blustery here all I want to do is go back to bed and watch Wallander be Very Fucked Up. Fucking work :(
