omg, I finished my [community profile] kink_bingo card literally at the wire. This is G kink. It is also blink!kink--as in blink and you'll miss it.

Title: A Slice of Chocolate Gateau
Rating: G
Pairing: Lewis/Hathaway
Warnings: None
Word count: 2165
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: for the "food" square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card.
a/n: also for the "accident" square on my h/c bingo card.

Summary: Dr. Hobson breaks her ankle. Lewis and Hathaway bring her cake.

Between that and Halloween I'm just gonna go faint now. Hope y'all had a good night--catch you in the morning.

For some reason, I'm determined to finish my [community profile] kink_bingo card by Wed. Here's the fourth out of five, in another extremely obscure fandom. The fifth, with any luck, will be super fluffy Lewis fic.

Title: Stiff
Rating: R
Pairing: Four/Eric
Warnings: dub-con,impact play, mention of canon childhood abuse.
Spoilers: major spoilers for Insurgent
Word count: ~1,150 wds.
Disclaimer: These characters do not belong to me. No profit is being made from this work.

a/n: For the "rough body play" square on my kink_bingo card.
a/n: Major spoilers for Insurgent.
a/n: I'm grateful to [profile] frackin_sweet for the very helpful beta on this.
a/n: I meant to write a fic called "Four Times Four Took a Punch," just because I liked the title, but I stalled out on the first one.

Summary: There are things more dangerous than fear.

Dear Yuletide Author:

First of all, thank you so much for writing a story for me! Any fic with these characters will make me happy, so please just write what seems fun and interesting to you!

If it’s helpful, here are some things I like:

I’m still spamming y’all, because I was boy-free last weekend, and that meant I went to the movies and actually finished a book.

I took myself to see Argo, which I enjoyed enormously and recommend to all.

more about Argo, no particular spoilers )

I also finished Kevin Powers’s The Yellow Birds, a first novel (the author isn’t 30 yet) about the Iraq war that’s been getting a lot of press. Seriously, you’d think the book would collapse under its accolades: Tom Wolfe, Ann Patchett and Colm Toibin all blurb it across the front cover, and there's more on the back. It's a slim volume!

But the book pretty much holds up to its praise.

more about the novel, no real spoilers )

Still, a really amazing achievement, especially when you consider Powers came back from Iraq without a college degree, went through college on the GI Bill and then on to an MFA in poetry and then this novel, in about five years.

Besides, even the Iceman is talking about PTSD these days, so there you go.

There is too much to watch on TV! Some things have already been regulated to the status of “okay, I’ll watch it with the boys if they feel like it after dinner” (sadly, this seems to mean that H50 and Elementary and Arrow are duking it out with Dr. Who, Alphas and Psych).

Here’s what’s rising above that at the moment (idiosyncratic, I admit):

Last Resort:

Merlin: Yeah, who would’ve thought that Merlin would have such staying power? But I continue to really enjoy it on both the cheesy (shirtless knights, anyone?) and emotional fronts (stories of good leaders are my number one bullet proof kink).

I blame tumblr for this

SPN )

Homeland: I’m not sure what’s going to happen now that the “is he or isn’t he?” question has been answered. But I don’t care, because I’m still mesmerized by Carrie, Saul and Brody (only halfway through 2x02 on this one)

I have also, thanks to [personal profile] garryowen’s persuasive abilities, been watching Wallander. I watched the third, most recent, series first, because it was streaming on PBS (yes, this is one of the simple pleasures of sad souls like me that Mitt Romney would take away). I usually associate Kenneth Branagh with bombast, but he’s lovely and restrained and vastly appealing in this—middle-aged and poignant and tough and smart (and a hot mess). Also: Sweden is beautiful. I’m making my way through S1 now, which is grimmer and shot with a lot of surprise!close-ups and surprise!blurriness which bug me, but still well worth watching, if you like your procedurals with a lot of angst.

And that's more than enough!

And this is...me managing to post one lone bingo fill as my fic output for the entire month of September. At least it's the double-penetration square for kink_bongo, which I've been dreading concerned about. Maybe someday in the future I will write a kink bingo fill that is sexy, as opposed to just kind of weird. This is not that day.

Title: Skin I've Been Through Dies Behind Me
Fandom: Copper
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Eva/Corky/Maguire
Warnings/spoilers: spoilers through 1x04
Word Count: ~1.5K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: title from Townes Van Zandt's "Snake Song," but I was really thinking of the Emmy Lou Harris cover of the song in Lawless.
a/n: for the "double penetration" square on my kink_bingo card

Summary: Eva invites Corky and Maguire into her bed.

So, I broke my Yom Kippur technology/media fast by watching H50 3x01 with the boys. In the interests of full disclosure, I’ll admit that I never saw most of the S2 finale; I think I got the gist, but it may be that I missed some of the subtleties of this episode.

spoilers )

I like to think there’s a world where Doris McGarrett and Kelly Burkhardt from Grimm get together for some unsweetened ice tea and a few diet-breaking cookies.

Let’s call it the Land of Over-used Plot Devices.

Next: Danny and Monroe meet in a bar and discuss appropriate forms of address for your BFF’s mother when she comes back from the dead. “At least she isn’t sworn to kill you and all of your kind,” says Monroe. “I’m not too sure about that,” says Danny.

I've been lurking around this fandom for months: here is my first fic!

Title: As Holy Palmers Kiss
Fandom: Lewis
Pairing: Lewis/Hathaway
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: n/a
Word count: ~2.4K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: for the "writing on the body" square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card.
a/n: thanks to [personal profile] thirdbird for the beta! Any remaining mistakes my own.

Summary: Lewis doesn't fancy a second career as a writing pad. Hathaway has other ideas.

Yes, I am quoting from The Expendables 2, because, in the annals of bad parenting decisions, I took my son to see this blockbuster cinematic event (actually, in his book, this goes in the annals of awesome parental decisions, never mind the brain cells melted by senseless violence). Why yes, I was the only woman in the theater. The last time that happened to me, I was seeing Shame in the depths of Chelsea.

more, with minor spoilers )

The school year can’t start soon enough.

Monday afternoon, when we were still exhausted from travel, the boys and I saw The Bourne Legacy, which we enjoyed very much, though I may have to go back and see it without small squirmy persons who I have to take to the bathroom during crucial character bits.

more, w/ very minor spoilers )

Son #2 and I watched Grimm 2x01 and enjoyed it, though there was so much new story arc dumpage I think I might have to go back and take notes. Monroe, as usual, was the best part, with his running commentary on Nick’s maternal reunion.

I finally finished Generation Kill, both series and audiobook (with the addition of reading Wright’s 2008 afterward in the print book).

my usual grumpiness about such things )

I finished both seasons of The Killing and have only about 15 minutes to go in Blackout. I may have exhausted all TV dramas about corrupt mayors in extremely rainy cities. If you have any suggestions, though, please let me know!

hope everyone has a great weekend!

Title: The Things They Wore
Fandom: Generation Kill
Rating: hard R or NC-17
Pairing: Brad/Ray
Word count: ~1.5K
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit, no reference to real people intended.
a/n: For the "uniforms/military kink" on my [community profile] kink_bingo card. This is a slightly odd take on the prompt--there's some context for what inspired me here, if you're curious.
a/n: The fic has a mix of details from the book and the HBO series.
a/n: Titled with apologies to Tim O'Brien, whose writing I love.
a/n: Many thanks to [personal profile] thirdbird for a speedy and super helpful beta!
a/n: Thanks also to pun for hosting a rewatch this summer, which got me to finally see the show.

So, I have "uniforms/military" kink on my [community profile] kink_bingo card. This kink is usually all about order, discipline, restraint, regimentation, tidiness, etc. (cf the kink wiki entry). But would it be possible to have a kink for uniforms soiled/destroyed/wrecked by combat?

examples of what I'm talking about below the cut )

thanks!

I've finally finished this--at least two months after I promised I would. H/C and kink, but sadly not eligible for any of my bingo cards. Please note that this is a foursome, with pretty much all the possible pairings that implies.

Title: Four Sides Don't Make a Square.
Fandom: Grimm

Warnings: sex while under the involuntary influence of illicit substances (dubcon the way sexpollen is dubcon).

[livejournal.com profile] electricmonk333 has done an wonderful podfic of “Two Boys from Kansas in King Uther’s Court”, my SPN/Merlin xover, for [livejournal.com profile] podficbigbang. At 36k, this is by far the longest thing I’ve ever written, and has more action scenes than the rest of my fics put together, but [livejournal.com profile] electricmonk333 has a beautiful voice and does a wonderful job of sustaining the pace of the fic over 3 hrs and 38 minutes (a better job than the pacing of the story actually deserves, tbh).

CLICK HERE to dl and to see the gorgeous cover art by [livejournal.com profile] helva2260.

As people always say, it is weird to listen to your own fic read by other people, but even though I sometimes wished I’d taken a red pencil to the fic before it was recorded (too many adverbs and epithets *facepalm*), I still laughed at an embarrassing number of my own jokes. Listening to the fic, which is set in SPN S1 and Merlin S1 (I even had to invent an extra knight for Camelot, as there were no knights in S1—can you believe it?), also reminded me of how much fun it had been to write SPN fic, which I haven’t thought about in a while.

**

Inspired by that, I, perhaps foolishly, decided my sons were old enough to watch SPN—S1 at least.

Son #2 drifted away, but son #2 and I devoured the pilot and “Wendigo” in one sitting. Omigod the boys were cute in those days, weren’t they?

I’ve run three times this week, and done two of my three 10k workouts (more on the other blog). Wondering when I’ll get the last one in, though, since the weather is supposed to be between 100-104F tomorrow through Tues. With a low of 75. Which means that if I run at 7am, it’ll already be 80. *wipes away anticipatory sweat*

In conclusion: Why can’t I go see Magic Mike the minute it opens, people, why? I will be kid-free on Tues., though, and that is the first thing I’m gonna do, I tell you what. I need that movie like whoa.

I read a haunting novel on the train back and forth from DC: The Book of Jonas by Stephen Dau (his first novel, published in 2012).

It’s about a boy who is “rescued” from a country like Afghanistan and given asylum in the US after his village and family are destroyed by an American military operation. The boy Younis/Jonas tries to build a new life in the US, but is plagued by unresolved trauma/memories of how exactly he survived the devastation. His story intersects with that of a missing American soldier whose mother is trying to find him..

I would absolutely recommend it, but mostly if you have an interest in books about PTSD and dissociation, which it's quite good on.

So, here's what happened: I posted a few Warrior prompts over at the Running Hot II post. Then I got curious, and decided to rewatch the movie. And then, I found myself liking it even more than I had the first time, and writing fic. In answer to one of my own prompts. It happens, right?

Title: On the Plains of Troy
Fandom: Warrior (2011)
Genre: gen, h/c, future!fic
Rating: PG-13 (for language)
Warnings: something like suicidal ideation
Disclaimer: These characters belong to their creators and I am making no profit from this work.
a/n: Set in my favorite fanonical version of life after the movie, in which Tommy lives near Brendan and Tess and trains with Frank.
a/n: written for my own prompt (I know, I know) at Running Hot II
a/n: many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] frackin_sweet for the extremely helpful beta.

Summary:

I have been remiss about reminders, but RUNNING HOT II is percolating along. [livejournal.com profile] deepbluemermaid has been posting some great H50 WIPs, which you can access via THE MASTER LIST and there are prompts galore in a plethora of fandoms at the prompting post, if you're looking for ideas about what to write this afternoon!

In the meantime, have some previews and sneak peaks.

And if for some reason you haven't seen the Magic Mike international trailer, I think you owe yourself the pleasure (linking b/c I can't find one to embad.

In other news, I have seen the season finale of Grimm and 1x12 of the sadly cancelled Awake but I haven't seen the H50 finale or House 8x21 yet, but I'm thoroughly spoiled for all, so feel free to share your thoughts. And I'm off to Hunger Games movie now, so that too!
