I am back from Worldcon! It was, as usual, A LOT.

I flew out of Boston Tuesday night, got to my hotel around 11PM, which in my head was 2AM. It was the start of a lot of long days where my East Coast brain would wake me early and my con-going heart would try to keep me awake late to see as much as possible. But I never did go to any of the evening parties.

DW People I saw included [personal profile] gwyn, [personal profile] beatrice_otter, [personal profile] mecurtin, [personal profile] wickedwords, [personal profile] elf, [personal profile] batyatoon, and probably more I am forgetting. I did not get to spend as much time talking to them as I wanted, but it was great to see so many people.

Wednesday morning I got my badge early, then I took a bus out to U-City to rent a bicycle for the next two days. It was a Kona hybrid, a nice aluminum framed bike with sturdy shifters and disc brakes. I liked it a lot more than my own current bike, I'm thinking of getting one.

Biking in Seattle was fun but the downtown sure is hilly. I biked about 25 miles over the two days I had the bike, and I also probably walked the bike up close to a mile of hills I didn't feel up to climbing. So I have mixed feelings about the plan, it was nice to have the transit speed and flexibility the bike gave me, but I definitely overtaxed myself and sapped energy that could have gone to other con activities. An ebike might have been the wiser choice.

I got back to the con only to realize I had lost my badge. I think when I left the con I took my mask and badge off simultaneously and the badge must have missed my pocket. I went to registration and after some being directed to different stations, found that some lovely person had found and turned in my badge. Whew!

I was on 4 panels about fanfic and they were all really fun to be a part of. I also attended a couple more panels on fanfic, there was so much and it was great that none of the panels had to be THE load bearing panel; there were a bunch of times when we could say, for more on that check out this other panel.

I did a workshop on making maps with watercolors. I'm not sure why I signed up for this other than just wanting some sort of crafty time, but it was fun even though I was not that good, and maybe I need to do more painting. The cool but frustrating thing about watercolors is how they surprise you and do things you didn't expect they would do on the page. I don't love the map I made, but I think I can get a D&D oneshot out of it.

There was a Jewish fan meetup, which was amazingly heterogeneous in perspective and yet had this lovely vibe of kindness and openness and comfort. Several people were saying it was the most comfortable they'd felt since October 7th, to be in a room of people who understood them as Jews and Fans. We also had fannish Kabbalat Shabbat (nusach arisia) with about 30 people, and 15 or so came back for a morning Shabbat service. We had a Lecha Dodi to an adaptation of the Firefly theme and a Jurassic Park Adon Olam.

Sunday morning I hosted a crossword meetup. We had about 15 people, which is pretty good for the morning after the Hugos. I announced that I was there to evangelize cryptic crosswords and we pulled together a group of about 5 people, 2 who were total cryptic newbies, to solve the latest Square Chase variety cryptic. Meanwhile the rest of the people solved various other American crosswords I brought.

Program highlights included Ada Palmer reading from Hearthfire, Brandon Sanderson reading from the new Mistborn series, academic panels on the evolution of robots in fiction from RUR to Murderbot, and on the monastic tradition in SFF, and Leigh Bardugo, Holly Black, Matt Ruff, Caitlin Rozakis, and Nicholas Binge talking about what it was like to have their books adapted for the screen.

I didn't do as much touristing as I wanted, but also I'd hit most of the most obvious Seattle sites I really wanted to see when I was here for the Spokane Worldcon ten years back. I did take a nice walk in the Olympia Sculpture Garden Shabbos morning, and I saw a lot more of the city, just qua city, because of the bike.

And then my flight home, which was already kind of precariously late to go to work the next day, was delayed an hour. I got home at 2:30 AM Monday and somehow dragged myself to work but I was a zombie who did no functional work that day.

Anyway, that was Worldcon. It was great but too much and so I'm thinking I'll skip LA next year and do more relaxing vacations.

Fandom: Brilliant Minds
Pairing: Josh/Oliver
Rating: M
Warnings: None
Summary: Dating Josh is one of the more surreal experiences Oliver has had in his life, which is saying something since he’s ingested a significant amount of psychedelics over the years. He’s never dated anyone who would suggest—suggest!—that they go to a haunted house event hosted by a bunch of teenaged witches to raise money for a member of their coven who just had a baby. Set sometime between the end of ep 10 and the first half of ep 11.

Fic: Revisions (A Fatal Inversion)

I was feeling a bit better yesterday and typed up this, which I've had in my notebook since spring, for A Fatal Inversion. It of course ended up less shippier than planned and maybe even darker than canon warrants, idk. But it was where my brain went when I rewatched it. (The first time around it's a sort of reverse murder mystery; the second it's an intense character study of the fallout in those involved.)

For [community profile] genprompt_bingo, [community profile] allbingo, [community profile] 100fandoms & [community profile] 100ships, because if I'm going to write super obscure fic that probably won't make sense if you don't know canon, I might as well make it count!

I'll start with the tl;dr summary to make sure everyone sees it and then explain further: As of September 1, we will temporarily be forced to block access to Dreamwidth from all IP addresses that geolocate to Mississippi for legal reasons. This block will need to continue until we either win the legal case entirely, or the district court issues another injunction preventing Mississippi from enforcing their social media age verification and parental consent law against us.

Mississippi residents, we are so, so sorry. We really don't want to do this, but the legal fight we and Netchoice have been fighting for you had a temporary setback last week. We genuinely and honestly believe that we're going to win it in the end, but the Fifth Circuit appellate court said that the district judge was wrong to issue the preliminary injunction back in June that would have maintained the status quo and prevented the state from enforcing the law requiring any social media website (which is very broadly defined, and which we definitely qualify as) to deanonymize and age-verify all users and obtain parental permission from the parent of anyone under 18 who wants to open an account.

Netchoice took that appellate ruling up to the Supreme Court, who declined to overrule the Fifth Circuit with no explanation -- except for Justice Kavanaugh agreeing that we are likely to win the fight in the end, but saying that it's no big deal to let the state enforce the law in the meantime.

Needless to say, it's a big deal to let the state enforce the law in the meantime. The Mississippi law is a breathtaking state overreach: it forces us to verify the identity and age of every person who accesses Dreamwidth from the state of Mississippi and determine who's under the age of 18 by collecting identity documents, to save that highly personal and sensitive information, and then to obtain a permission slip from those users' parents to allow them to finish creating an account. It also forces us to change our moderation policies and stop anyone under 18 from accessing a wide variety of legal and beneficial speech because the state of Mississippi doesn't like it -- which, given the way Dreamwidth works, would mean blocking people from talking about those things at all. (And if you think you know exactly what kind of content the state of Mississippi doesn't like, you're absolutely right.)

Needless to say, we don't want to do that, either. Even if we wanted to, though, we can't: the resources it would take for us to build the systems that would let us do it are well beyond our capacity. You can read the sworn declaration I provided to the court for some examples of how unworkable these requirements are in practice. (That isn't even everything! The lawyers gave me a page limit!)

Unfortunately, the penalties for failing to comply with the Mississippi law are incredibly steep: fines of $10,000 per user from Mississippi who we don't have identity documents verifying age for, per incident -- which means every time someone from Mississippi loaded Dreamwidth, we'd potentially owe Mississippi $10,000. Even a single $10,000 fine would be rough for us, but the per-user, per-incident nature of the actual fine structure is an existential threat. And because we're part of the organization suing Mississippi over it, and were explicitly named in the now-overturned preliminary injunction, we think the risk of the state deciding to engage in retaliatory prosecution while the full legal challenge continues to work its way through the courts is a lot higher than we're comfortable with. Mississippi has been itching to issue those fines for a while, and while normally we wouldn't worry much because we're a small and obscure site, the fact that we've been yelling at them in court about the law being unconstitutional means the chance of them lumping us in with the big social media giants and trying to fine us is just too high for us to want to risk it. (The excellent lawyers we've been working with are Netchoice's lawyers, not ours!)

All of this means we've made the extremely painful decision that our only possible option for the time being is to block Mississippi IP addresses from accessing Dreamwidth, until we win the case. (And I repeat: I am absolutely incredibly confident we'll win the case. And apparently Justice Kavanaugh agrees!) I repeat: I am so, so sorry. This is the last thing we wanted to do, and I've been fighting my ass off for the last three years to prevent it. But, as everyone who follows the legal system knows, the Fifth Circuit is gonna do what it's gonna do, whether or not what they want to do has any relationship to the actual law.

We don't collect geolocation information ourselves, and we have no idea which of our users are residents of Mississippi. (We also don't want to know that, unless you choose to tell us.) Because of that, and because access to highly accurate geolocation databases is extremely expensive, our only option is to use our network provider's geolocation-based blocking to prevent connections from IP addresses they identify as being from Mississippi from even reaching Dreamwidth in the first place. I have no idea how accurate their geolocation is, and it's possible that some people not in Mississippi might also be affected by this block. (The inaccuracy of geolocation is only, like, the 27th most important reason on the list of "why this law is practically impossible for any site to comply with, much less a tiny site like us".)

If your IP address is identified as coming from Mississippi, beginning on September 1, you'll see a shorter, simpler version of this message and be unable to proceed to the site itself. If you would otherwise be affected, but you have a VPN or proxy service that masks your IP address and changes where your connection appears to come from, you won't get the block message, and you can keep using Dreamwidth the way you usually would.

On a completely unrelated note while I have you all here, have I mentioned lately that I really like ProtonVPN's service, privacy practices, and pricing? They also have a free tier available that, although limited to one device, has no ads or data caps and doesn't log your activity, unlike most of the free VPN services out there. VPNs are an excellent privacy and security tool that every user of the internet should be familiar with! We aren't affiliated with Proton and we don't get any kickbacks if you sign up with them, but I'm a satisfied customer and I wanted to take this chance to let you know that.

Again, we're so incredibly sorry to have to make this announcement, and I personally promise you that I will continue to fight this law, and all of the others like it that various states are passing, with every inch of the New Jersey-bred stubborn fightiness you've come to know and love over the last 16 years. The instant we think it's less legally risky for us to allow connections from Mississippi IP addresses, we'll undo the block and let you know.

Do not talk about your assignment or recipient, or share your work, in public spaces (i.e. large Discord servers, Twitter/X, Tumblr) until after creator reveals.

All art must be posted on AO3 as part of the collection before sharing it on social media. Do not publicly share your work until after creator reveals.

Official exchange communications to individual usernames will happen via email throughout the exchange. Please make sure you are checking your emails when we announce emails have been sent.

Be respectful! Everyone has different likes/interests/squicks.

Have fun! (we love you)
Nominations:During the nominations period, participants create a collective tagset for the upcoming exchange. The tagset is the pool of relationships, characters, and additional tags that will be used during sign ups and matching. This is specific to this year’s exchange, so if you are planning to request/offer any tags you don’t already see in the tagset, nominate them!

Please only nominate tags that you plan to use. You do not have to nominate in order to participate. If your desired tags are already in the tag set, you do not need to nominate them a second time.

If you nominate a tag already in the tag set, you will have the first week to change it before it is denied. Once it is denied, you will not be able to change your nominations.

Relationships field

This is the tag field for both individual characters (“Solo:”) and relationships (“Group:”). You can nominate up to 10 tags in this field. Please use a slash (/) for relationships of a romantic or sexual nature, and an ampersand (&) for platonic and queerplatonic ships.

Example tags:
  • Group: Gideon Nav/Cytherea the First/Loveday Heptane
  • Group: Gideon Nav & Our Lady of the Passion
  • Solo: Cytherea the First
  • Solo: Noodle
Use "Solo: [CHARACTER NAME]" when nominating a single character, "Group: [CHARACTER NAME]/[CHARACTER NAME]" when nominating a romantic or sexual pairing, and "Group: [CHARACTER NAME] & [CHARACTER NAME]" when nominating a platonic or queerplatonic pairing.

Please use the full names of the characters when nominating, i.e. "Solo: Harrowhark Nonagesimus" instead of "Solo: Harrow." For BoE names, please use the full first part of the name. For example: "Solo: Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead", not "Solo: Wake" or “Solo: Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead Kia Hua Ko Te Pai Snap Back to Reality Oops There Goes Gravity”.

Threesomes/moresomes are allowed! Please add the name of each character you would like to see in the group. We prefer if you include given and surnames for all characters, but understand that larger polycules will have to be edited to fit all desired characters in the 100-character limit.

Please disambiguate your ship and character nominations. AO3 will suggest canonical tags when you begin to type in a word—please do NOT use these! This helps the mods on the back end :)

Some tips for disambiguating ships include:
  • Adding something new at the end of the names (i.e. "Gideon Nav/Harrowhark Nonagesimus (GTN HTN NTN ATN" instead of "Gideon Nav/Harrowhark Nonagesimus (TLT)"
  • Putting the names in reverse alphabetical order

Additional Tags

This field is for the tags you would conceivably use for tagging on AO3—for example “Fluff”, “Canon-Compliant”, “Birthday Parties”, etc. You can nominate up to 20 additional tags. These are tags that add details to your requests and offers during sign ups.

Please avoid putting full prompts in the additional tags field. For example: If you plan to request a story about Dios Apate Major in a Wild West setting, nominate "Dios Apate Major," "Alternate Universe - Wild West," and "Ten-Gallon Hats," not “Dios Apate Major Threesome in the Wild West where Mercymorn Has A Ten-Gallon Hat”.

We encourage you to browse the tagset before nominating to make sure you're not repeating what's already there, and to nominate whatever your heart desires. We are allowing everything from the purest of the pure to the blackest of the black to the crackiest crack to ever crack.

Crossovers

Crossovers are welcome! When nominating crossover tags, please be sure to select “TLT Crossover” for the fandom on the tagset. At least one character must be from The Locked Tomb. Crossover nominations with no Locked Tomb characters will be deleted. Please add "Group:" or "Solo:" before your nominations and indicate the fandoms of each character.

Examples:
  • Group: Naberius Tern (TLT)/Goofy (KH)
  • Group: Harrowhark Nonagesimus (TLT) & Data (ST:TNG) & Murderbot (The Murderbot Diaries)
Original characters are also allowed! Your cav-sonas, necro-sonas, TTRPG/Roleplay the Ninth characters, and other made up characters are acceptable so long as they are within the Locked Tomb universe. Please nominate these characters under "Original Female Character(s)," "Original Male Character(s)," and/or "Original Nonbinary Character(s)" using the same rules as above. You can add specific information about your character(s) in your sign up.

Examples:
  • Group: Gideon Nav/Original Female Character(s)
  • Group: Nona & Hot Sauce & Original Nonbinary Character(s)
  • Solo: Original Male Character(s)
Sign Ups:Each participant can make up to 10 requests, and up to 10 offers. Please only one sign up per person. No sock accounts!

Requests

Rating: indicate whether you want smut (E rating), no-smut (T rating), or either (choose both!)

“Character” (medium): not for TLT characters! Use this field to indicate whether you want fic, art, or podfic.

Relationships: use the tagset’s tags to indicate which characters and relationships are in your request. There is a minimum of 1 relationships per request. You can add a maximum of 20 relationships.

Additional Tags: use the tagset’s tags to indicate what you’d like to see in your request. You can add a minimum of 3 additional tags and a maximum of 20.

You will match on 1 relationship, 1 medium, 1 rating, and 3 additional tags. This means that some people's matches will be fairly loose. This is okay! Be prepared to create something you never thought you would create. Remember, you are mostly writing for someone else, and you want to make a gift that they will enjoy.

Additional Details (optional): Provide more information about your request here. Totally optional—if you can get your request across using tags, that’s chill too! Many participants include specific prompts or things they’d like to see, general likes, Do Not Wants (DNWs), information about original characters, etc. Only the DNWs included in your sign up on AO3 will be enforced. You can also use this field to indicate if you are open to accepting treats or not.

If you have more to say than what can fit into Additional Details, write a Dear Creator letter and add a link to your sign up. A Dear Creator letter must be public so your gifter can read it. More information about Dear Creator letters can be found at this elegant and finely-crafted link! Mods will only be enforcing DNWs that appear in the sign up on AO3. Make sure that the DNWs on your sign up are the DNWs on your Dear Creator letter.

Offers

Rating: indicate whether you are offering smut (E rating), no-smut (T rating), or either (choose both!)

“Character” (medium): not for TLT characters! Use this field to indicate whether you are offering fic, art, or podfic.

Relationships: use the tagset’s tags to indicate which characters and relationships you’re offering. You must offer a minimum of 2 relationships, and can offer up to 20.

Additional Tags: use the tagset’s tags to indicate what you’re willing to offer. You can add a minimum of 5 additional tags and a maximum of 20.

Additional Details and DNWs cannot be added for offers. Keep an open mind while offering—a creator whose only offer is incredibly specific will have fewer possible matches than someone who offers a broad range of possibilities!

Matching

After signups close, matching offers to requests begins!

Offers will match to requests on a minimum of 1 relationship, 1 medium, 1 rating, and 3 additional tags. This means that some people's matches will be fairly loose. This is okay! Be prepared to create something you never thought you would create. Remember, you are creating for someone else, and you want to make a gift that they will enjoy, just as your own anonymous creator is doing for you!

The "Solo: Any" and "Group: Any" Relationship tags will only match to other "Solo: Any" and "Group: Any" tags. If you use these tags, please know that this gives the mods implicit permission to modify the Relationship field of your sign up to allow for easier matching. We will only touch the Relationship field of your sign up. Everything else will be left alone.
AssignmentsAssignments will go out the first week after sign ups close. Initial pinch hits, if any, will appear on our Dreamwidth Community shortly after.

Although your assignment may contain more than one prompt, you are only required to create one (1) work for your recipient. (If you want to make more than one, though, we're not going to stop you!)

If you cannot fulfill your assignment for any reason, please default! There is no penalty and no judgment for defaulting before the deadline, and no explanation required. Life happens! To default, go to "My Assignment" at the collection and click the button that says "default" in the top right corner. You can also default through your profile under "Assignments."

If you default, and your assigned creator defaults, then you are no longer guaranteed a gift. As there is no way to know if your creator also defaulted, the best way to stay in the exchange is to pick up a pinch hit or write a treat that fulfills the exchange rules (reaches minimum word count, matches a request, and is a complete and standalone work).

If you do not submit your work by the deadline and you haven’t requested an extension, you will be automatically defaulted and your assignment will become a post-deadline pinch hit. Extensions will only be granted if the mods are contacted more than 24 hours prior to the deadline.
Pinch Hits & TreatsPinch hits will be posted on our Dreamwidth community throughout the exchange period. Pinch hits are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis and have the same deadline as regular assignments, unless otherwise stated. To claim, follow the instructions on the pinch hit post.

Treats are welcome, and optional! Many participants create additional gifts for others’ requests, in addition to their assignments. Treats do not have to adhere to the same minimum requirements as regular gifts, but they must still be a complete, standalone work when they are posted. Please make sure your treat matches your recipient's prompt before posting. Add whether you are open to treats in your sign up requests, and if you are, please ensure your AO3 user settings are set to allow gifts from other users.

Writing a treat is not a requirement.
PostingPlease post your assignment before the exchange deadline. To post to the exchange, go to "My Assignment" under the collection page and click "Fulfill" in the top right corner.

Posting a fic on AO3

Posting art on AO3

Posting podfic on AO3

All works that are not in by the deadline time will be automatically defaulted and the requests will go out as post-deadline pinch hits.

If you know you will not make the deadline, please either default, or email the mods at tlt.fic.exchange@gmail.com at least 24 hours before the deadline for an extension. Extensions will not be granted after then. There is no penalty and no judgment for defaulting before the deadline.
RevealsWork reveals will happen on schedule unless a participant is missing a gift. None shall go giftless on reveals day! Any delays will be announced on Dreamwidth, Tumblr, and Twitter.

The collection will be anonymous for one week. During that time, if you want to reply to comments on your work, you will be listed as an anonymous creator until the end of the anonymous period.

Kudosing and commenting on your gifts is not a requirement, but it is highly encouraged. Please show your appreciation for your gift by leaving kudos and a comment.

You are also encouraged to read and look at the other creations made for the exchange. Don't forget to leave kudos and comments on the ones you enjoyed!

After creators are revealed, you can publicly share your work with the world.

Have fun! (We love you)

I've not been posting or even keeping up with people so much because I've largely been wiped out for one reason or another or prioritising something else with the reduced summer PC time - sorry. This will continue for a little while yet, until it is eventually replaced by my usual slightly less flakeyness.

* The other week I managed some flash fic/scribblets for AU_gust (AU August) on tumblr. I've only managed to tidy up and post one of them since, & there are 2 others to follow once I tweak them a bit, as well as 1 more that I don't know if is worth proper posting & a drabble I still need to type up. But this used up my posting energy for now, so they can wait.

Anyway, in a shocking attempt at pandering to what might pass as popular demand among my works, I committed another Miss Marple + supernatural fic(let):

Tea on Sunday (572 words) by thisbluespirit
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Miss Marple - Agatha Christie
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Jane Marple, Griselda Clement
Additional Tags: Ficlet, Alternate Universe, Witchcraft, AU-gust | August Writing Challenge, Community: allbingo, Community: 100_women, Community: 100fandoms, Miss Marple is a witch
Summary: Miss Marple's secret is out.

* In other writing, before summer got underway, I typed up the bulk of the longest continuous sequence I'm doing for the current arc at [community profile] rainbowfic, and then ever since have been scraping away at finishing it and editing it, and I am nearly there, although I suspect it'll still take another week or two before I have the first section ready to post. (I knew this would happen, so I also started two shorter pieces, but one of them, which is more or less done, has just been even harder to edit because tiredness etc. and the other one is still stuck at only two paragraphs, so that plan went well. Summer brain is not up to much. That was why I had to silly no-pressure AU ficlets my way back to life and even then summer rudely and immediately interrupted all over again). But there has been writing of sorts even so.

(The long sequence was one of the very first bits of this arc that I drew up, which is very funny because I essentially set up a sort of grand house murder mystery affair except that then everything changed so much that now my main characters aren't bothering taking part in the murder bit so am not sure if it will read ok (hopefully when edited) or if I committed Worst Murder Mystery ever as a result. I think probably I will also write a note on the header when we get there saying that One Day I Will Come Back, yes, one day I will come back, until then all 2 or 3 of you should go forward in all your beliefs about how people shouldn't wave a murder mystery at you and then literally run away from it, and I will eventually demonstrate that what is going on is in fact an Apocalyptic Overarching Plot, so there. And edit, of course.)

* I am currently listening to: a 1989 BBC Radio adaptation of Wilkie Collins's No Name I was delighted to find, starring Sophie Thompson as Magdalen, Jack May (as Captain Wragge), Eleanor Bron (as Mrs Lecount) & Robin Ellis (as Captain Kirke). I'm going slowly, but have just started part 3. It's very good and they're making excellent use of the epistolary bits, which is where radio has an advantage over TV. Mrs Lecount and her sinister toad have just turned up and Eleanor Bron is obviously a v good choice.

* I have watched some things, which, aside from what I've already mentioned, and a ridiculous amount of TV detectives, includes these:

The Tribe (1998), The Halfway House (1944), A Matter of Life and Death (1946), The Admirable Crichton (1957), Creation (2009), Cause Celebre (1988) & Eye in the Sky (2015), all of which were either v good or worth talking about anyway. (Creation and Eye in the Sky have brought me very nearly to the end of my Jeremy Northam's viable CV, so I'm a little bit in mourning now; I suppose a new blorbo will come along in time. Talking of which, I found that the iPlayer had the BBC 1970s All Creatures on it, so finally got around to seeing Suzanne Neve's episode of it, which would be the one thing I would certainly have watched with her when I was a child to see if I had shadowy feelings and indeed, as soon as she appeared, before even I saw her, the set was suddenly Significant in the back of my head, so yeah. I think I can prove childhood imprinting on all my top faves and that's what the thing is about, and why even when I'm so ill they reach me in ways that other people, no matter how much I enjoy them in things, don't unfortunately.)

(Hopefully I will get to talk about some of them properly, but I am happy to attempt such talk in comments if wanted, although sense is not guaranteed, and it is true that at least one or two I watched in a fugue state that all I can say is, well, it was good and I watched it very slowly in bits and there we are, but, yes it was good /o\)

* Also random funny thing. My old housemate N lent me a DVD (!!) of The Residence (was not joking about the sheer amount of detectives watched this summer), which I enjoyed so much I recced it to my Dad. A couple of weeks later we had this conversation:

Dad: I've been watching that medical drama you recommended, but it's not that great, really, so I've stopped.

Me: ... Medical drama??

(It turned out he'd found The Resident on one of the back Freeview channels, so I emailed him a trailer of the 2025 Netflix detective show that I magically got lent on DVD as if it was 2015 or something. He found a pirate source and then lost it again, but he definitely liked what he watched so far a lot better than the Resident).

1) Finally saw the last episode of Vera and the Farewell Pet documentary extra about the series. Interesting that the show has been so successful in so many countries. I will miss seeing new stories and it's particularly unfortunate that the last season was only 2 episodes. But I'm glad it had a long run and was satisfied with how it left off.

2) When I went to cancel Britbox earlier this week, they offered me a free month to continue. So why not? As a result I had more time to get through House of Elliot and finished S3. They clearly expected to go onto another season, which is unfortunate because without the final scenes they could have wrapped the story up fairly well. Read more... )

3) I also forged ahead up to season 19 of Silent Witness. Read more... )

4) I can't say I miss mass market paperbacks, largely because I read e-books and their costs have risen considerably. But their decline does upset some for a variety of reasons. I definitely think it's a shame they've been replaced by paperback copies in a hardback size, due to storage space, cost, and reduced titles. Read more... )

5) Some more trip photos at [community profile] common_nature, these at Agate Beach and nearby areas. Also a lack of whales.

Apparently three people liked my story "Vulcan That Was" enough to nominate it for a Philon Award. This story is my least read and least kudo'd Trek fic, and honestly, it has zero chance of winning. But if you feel like upping its chances, you could go vote for it! https://kiscon.org/philon2025.html Be logged in to your fannish email, not your RL one.

Brilliant Minds season 2 starts in a month, and I'm so fucking excited. I will undoubtedly annoy everyone by talking about it even more than I already do. Sorry!

The writer's block continues, but over the last couple of days, I have forced myself to write a bit of Brilliant Minds fic. Oddly, the story is thematically much like the Trek fic I forced myself to write the last time I had writer's block. 😂
