BRB--stolen laptop

Yup. Someone broke into our house yesterday afternoon--brick through the window n' all--and took two laptops (one very old, one work issue) and an ipod. Nothing else. So right at the moment I only have internet access here in the office, though I think I'll get a loaner work laptop soonish. In the meantime, though, I apologize for missing stuff, and it may take me a while to catch up.

IKR? Home-owning is not all it's cracked up to be. Bats and crime--it's like I'm living in some run-down Southern city or something. Oh wait--I am! *g*

No, seriously, it's sad, but both things are pretty standard around here, much as I love Durham and my neighborhood. And I have made the choice to live in an older house in a "central" neighborhood.

Still, I am trying to convince my kids that they would rather have a Rottweiler than a budgie for a pet. We have alarm system stickers in the window, and they didn't seem much deterrent--but I think a big dog face would make robbers think twice.

Ha, the rottweiler would indeed be better deterrent than the budgies. However, I can say with authority that nesting birds can be a deterrent too if only one could keep them in the family way!

IMO, home-owning really isn't any kind of pleasure (which is why we live in an apartment). We just had a leak reopen over our fridge which had been patched up a few years back and there's nothing like calling up the leasing office and having it be someone else's problem to deal with!
