Dear Yuletide Author:

First of all, thank you so much for writing a story for me! Any story with any of these characters will make me happy, so please just write what seems fun and interesting to you! I don’t expect you to get every character I requested into your story—any (or all) of them would fine . I saw this phrase in someone’s letter a while ago, and it perfectly expressed my feelings: If you come to a place where you think you can either write a good story or make me happy, write a good story. (and if that’s your phrase—thank you!).

If it’s helpful, here are some things about my general preferences:

I like M/M, F/F, gen, and M/F equally. I’ll be as happy with a G story as I will with one that’s NC-17—same goes for anything in between.

H/c is bulletproof for me, especially of the minor-injury/comfort!fic variety.

If you do feel like writing something sexually explicit, I’m quite partial to kink, if you can make it plausible for the characters. Any kind of sensation play/ pain play is great, including knives, as long as it’s RACK (please no guns right now, though I've enjoyed that in the past).

If it's something you're interested in, I like fic that explores altered mental states, dissociation and the effects of PTSD.

I love crossovers, so if for some reason we’ve matched on more than one fandom, feel free to mix and match. However, I don’t like AUs of any stripe, unless it’s in the service of a crossover.

Other things I enjoy: being in dubious battle; unexpected moments of empathy; compassion; connection; courage; honor; competency--but also moments of uncertainty and failure.

DNW: mpreg; incest; watersports; alpha/omega stuff; non-canonical character deaths; infidelity; kid!fic; and fluffy animal!fic.

Also: I love explorations of spirituality and religious practices of all kinds, including Christianity, but my enjoyment of stories about the cozier cultural aspects of Christmas is pretty limited (which is a roundabout way of saying, no Christmas!fic, please—though if you want to write me some Chanukah fic, especially for canonically Jewish characters, that would be great).

Counterpart

I've just started watching this recently (never watched while it was originally airing), and am finding it mesmerizing. My favorite character is Emily Burton, and I'd love to know more about her tumultuous life before we meet her in the series, particularly her relationship with Ian. If you're more interested in Ian on his own, that's fine, too. Feel free to include either Howard, even though I haven't requested him/them, and any other characters in the tagset. If we've matched on worldbuilding, please write whatever interests you about this world(s)! There's a canonical pandemic here, so if that interests you, please lean in!

Fremvandrerne | Beforeigners

I adored this show! I've only requested Alfhildr because I'd like for her to be at the center of any story you write. But please feel free to include any of the other characters in the tagset for the show, or even ones who aren't. My favorite thing about the show is the way is deals with the culture clash between past and present--presenting it as something that's fun and kind of funny, until all of a sudden it's deadly serious. I'd love a story about Alfhildr's early experiences of the present day. Why did she decide to join the police, for example? How did she get her camper van? What are her first sexual experiences in the present like? Really, though, I will love any story you want to tell about her.

The Betrayals

This book was such a surprise to me! I really enjoyed Collins's visceral, angsty style. I also liked that the book was just as much about ambition, and two people profoundly unwilling to compromise their ambitions, as it was about love or desire. Anything you'd like to write about Leo and Claire would be great. What happens to them after the book ends, particularly considering the political situation going on around them? How do they manage their thwarted ambitions in the context of their relationship (if they have a relationship)? If you want to push a little harder on the question of question of sexual identity than the book does, please go ahead (but you don't need to). If we've matched on worldbuilding, I'm most interested in the historical allegory to 1930s Europe--but if something else interests you, that's great too.

Yay, I'm glad to find another person into Beforeigners! Isn't it an amazing show? I love the humor, too, and the way that it holds up a mirror to the real world's conflicting feelings about immigrants and migration and assimilation.
