Over a month ago, I expressed a desire to write some shameless h/c, and [personal profile] d_generate_girl suggested I write some for Peaky Blinders. Many weeks later, I ended up this, which is h/c of a kind, but also one of the grimmest things I've ever written. Sorry?

Many thanks to [personal profile] d_generate_girl, though, for beta'ing, and helping me out with it enormously!

Five Fevers (3723 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Peaky Blinders (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: May Carleton/Thomas Shelby, Grace Burgess/Tommy Shelby
Characters: Tommy Shelby, Polly Gray, John Shelby, Arthur Shelby, Ada Shelby, Freddie Thorne, May Carleton
Additional Tags: Fever, Hurt/Comfort, War
Summary:

Penicillin wasn't discovered until 1928.

I've spent hours on this when I should've been doing other things--not sure why, or if it merited the attention. I meant it to be a little less silly and a little more shippy, but there you go. Posting it in journals only for now, to meet the challenge deadline; I need to britpick some of the idiom before I post to AO3.

Title: Swim Until You Can't See Land
Fandom: Rivers of London
Rating: G
Characters: Thomas Nightingale, Dr. Walid (pre-series)
Spoilers: none for the novels
Warnings: discussion of suicide
Word count: ~4.2K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

nb: This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo February amnesty challenge. The challenge was to write one fic using three prompts and a wildcard. My prompts were: hypothermia, hallucinations, loss of identity and (as the wild card), PTSD. Note that loss of identity here is more like losing one identity and gaining a new one.
nb: also using it for the "bed-sharing" square on my [community profile] trope_bingo card.
nb: title from the Frightened Rabbit song of the same name. Scottish band in honor of Dr. Walid.

Summary: It always amused Abdul that he, who so disdained flowery language, could begin the story of his greatest friendship with the phrase, “it was a dark and stormy night.”

Here, for the very last night of Chanukah, is one more fic. With three fics posted, I did about as well as I usually did for this (self) challenge. Sigh. If I didn't get to your prompt, I may still--though possibly not until after Yuletide.

This one is for [livejournal.com profile] kristen999

Title: We walk the same path, but got on different shoes
Fandom: H50
Rating: Gen (Steve&Danny or Steve/Danny, you can read it either way, really)
Word Count: 1.3K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit
a/n: title from Lil Wayne's "Right Above It" (but I might change it)

Summary: Four days since Steve had been found, two since he’d come home from the hospital, and he was still wandering around his own home like it was unknown terrain.

We walk the same path, but got on different shoes

I haven't written H50 fic for a while, so to get myself in the mood I unearthed this wonderful older vid by Nel--check it out if you haven't seen it before, or if you haven't seen it for a while: One Week

Title: Happy Families
Fandom: Lewis
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Robbie/Laura (mostly background); Robbie/James; Robbie/James/Laura (not explicit)
Spoilers: Set post-S7
Word count: 6,844

a/n: written for the [livejournal.com profile] lewis_challenge Summer Challenge and for the "learning to be loved" square on my hc_bingo card.
a/n: thanks to [personal profile] thirdbird and [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc for the extremely helpful betas, and to [personal profile] clarasteam, [livejournal.com profile] entangled_now, and [livejournal.com profile] thesmallhobbit for help with brit-picking. All remaining mistakes my own!

Summary: Tolstoy was wrong.

Happy Families
ariadnes_string: (Lestrade)
This is a belated birthday fic for [personal profile] thirdbird--happy birthday, bb! I really wanted to write Cabin Pressure fic for you, but I found I couldn't Finnemore :( Hope some sick!Lestrade will do instead.

Title: Summer Cold
Pairing: Sherlock/Lestrade (pre-series, established relationship)
Rating: G
Word count: 1449
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: This story is part of the Jewish!Lestrade series, but you don't need to have read the other parts of the series to understand it. Just know that pre-series, Sherlock and Lestrade have an on-again-off-again relationship.

If you are keeping track, this story comes after On the Doorposts of Your Houseand Sea Wrack, the first part of "Four Times Sherlock and Lestrade Danced Together without Touching (and one time they did)," but before The Most Pious Jew in the RAF, the second part of that fic.

Summary: How long could they go on like this?

Summer Cold
ariadnes_string: (Steve-Danny-boat)
You'd think I wouldn't have another sick!Steve fic left in me (I can't even bear to count up how many I've written). But apparently you'd be wrong.

In any case, though, I've finally written something for Running Hot III. The funny thing is, I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] hawaii_50_hc "alphabet challenge" and I got "R" for "relax." I couldn't for the life of me think of something to go with that prompt. But this fic would fit it perfectly #toolittletoolate

Title: Track Record
Fandom: H50
Rating: G, gen
Warnings/Spoilers: n/a. Only really canon compliant for S1, though--I haven't even watched most of S3 (though I plan to).
Word count: 2,226
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit
a/n: for this prompt

Summary: "You," said Danny, "are the most uptight sick person I've ever met."

In other news, RUNNING HOT III is still very much open, with all kinds of fabulous prompts in many, many fandoms. Please come check them out!
ariadnes_string: (Default)
This is fever!fic, but not, sadly for Running Hot. I wanted to finish the May challenge for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo, which was to write something for a tiny fandom using one of four prompts. The prompt I used was "loss of voice." But now--now!--I am going to try and write something for Running Hot III--H50 maybe, or Grimm.

Title: Born to Live Without You
Fandom: Endeavour (BBC)
Rating: PG--maybe PG-13
Word count: ~2.6k
Warnings/Spoilers: slight spoilers for 1x04
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit

Summary: “I thought men your age got this way about their secretaries,” said Win. “Not their bagmen.”

The [livejournal.com profile] lewis_challenge Secret Santa Exchange fics have been revealed! The masterlist is over here and includes many wonderful fics, including my lovely present, A Christmas Story. (Lewis fandom is an astonishing thing: the whole challenge went through without a single pinch hitter).

Here's my contribution:

So, here's what happened: I posted a few Warrior prompts over at the Running Hot II post. Then I got curious, and decided to rewatch the movie. And then, I found myself liking it even more than I had the first time, and writing fic. In answer to one of my own prompts. It happens, right?

Title: On the Plains of Troy
Fandom: Warrior (2011)
Genre: gen, h/c, future!fic
Rating: PG-13 (for language)
Warnings: something like suicidal ideation
Disclaimer: These characters belong to their creators and I am making no profit from this work.
a/n: Set in my favorite fanonical version of life after the movie, in which Tommy lives near Brendan and Tess and trains with Frank.
a/n: written for my own prompt (I know, I know) at Running Hot II
a/n: many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] frackin_sweet for the extremely helpful beta.

Summary:

Three, four times blessed, my friends-in-arms
Who died on the plains of Troy those years ago,
Serving the sons of Atreus to the end. Would to god
I’d died there too[.]

Title: Out of Nine Lives I've Spent Seven
Fandom: Mission: Impossible--Ghost Protocol
Rating: PG (minor language), gen.
Warnings: none
Word Count: ~9.2K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: originally written for this prompt at the [livejournal.com profile] ghotocol_kink meme and posted anonymously over there. I've cleaned it up some and fixed at least one glaring continuity error.
a/n: title from The Band, "The State I'm In."

Summary: Ethan had five or six hours before the poison kicked in. Plenty of time to complete the mission, right?

So, yeah, I can't seem to write anything but the most shameless h/c this month. That's my only excuse for this, and it's no excuse at all *facepalm*

Title: Flu Protocol
Fandom: MI:4
Rating: PG, gen
Genre: fluff, h/c
Warnings/spoilers: nope.
Word count: ~1.7K
Disclaimer: These characters are not mine, and I am making no profit through this endeavor.

a/n: for this prompt at [livejournal.com profile] ghotocol_kink and originally posted there.

Summary: “Poison,” Benji had declared, when he and Jane and Brandt had started sneezing almost simultaneously. Which had seemed unlikely—who would choose a poison designed to basically ache and sniffle and annoy you to death? But then the four of them getting sick at the same time had seemed pretty unlikely too.

Just under the wire, the last square on my h/c bingo card! De-aging, y'all: file under tropes I never thought I'd write.

Title: Gaius Redux: or, The Holiday
Fandom: Merlin
Rating: G
Warnings: n/a
Word count: ~3.3K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: for the "de-aging" square on my h/c bingo card.
a/n: takes place at some vague time between S3 and S4 when Lancelot is around and Uther is still alive.

Summary: “A holiday from being old. Just one day when everything works the way it's supposed to.”

This is birthday fic for the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] calamitycrow. She asked for sick!fic with bedsharing, and I, you'll be unsurprised to hear, was happy to oblige!

Prepare for the birthday ninjas of fluff, baby!

Title: Field Medicine for your Living Room.
Rating: PG (a bit of language), slashy gen, if you know what I mean and I think you do.
Warnings/Spoilers: Set during the beautiful two weeks that Steve and Danny cohabited.
Word count: 2.5K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

Summary: There are some situations not covered by the protocols.

So, I owe at least three or four people fic, but I haven't written anything for weeks, and have been in a major state of I can't, I can't, I can't. And apparently the only way around that was to write fic about completely new characters in a fandom that barely exists. Apologies, and hoping this jumpstarts those other projects.

Also sorry about the cop-out ending here--I might come back to it at some point.

nb: I'll post something more review-y about the show itself tomorrow.

Title: looking for vines and olive trees
Rating: pg-13
Characters, pairings: established Bel/Hector, Freddie (pre-Hector/Bel/Freddie, if you’re in the right frame of mind).
Spoilers: none really, but it works best if you imagine it taking place around 1x05
Word count: ~2.8K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: title adapted from the first two lines of Auden’s The Shield of Achilles, published the same year as the Suez Crisis. There’s an unmarked allusion to the poem at the end of the fic as well.
a/n: for the “cuddling” square on my [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card, though this is one of those h/c fills that looks like it wandered in from my kink_bingo card. There’s always one, eh?

Summary:

“Christ,” Freddie said, trying to calculate what immense quantity of drink it had taken to reduce a great slab of military-trained manhood like Hector Madden to such a sorry state.

“Quite,” said Bel.

Happy Suits renewal day, folks! For whatever reason, this is the longest thing I've written in quite some time.

Title: dancing on the legs of a new-born pony.
Pairing: Harvey/Mike
Rating: pg-13 (barely)
Genre: h/c. straight-up and shameless.
Spoilers: maybe a tiny one for 1x06, certainly takes place before 1x07
Word count: ~7.7K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.
a/n: for the “broken bones” square on my hc_bingo card.
a/n: many thanks to [personal profile] linaerys for the extremely helpful beta.
a/n: title from “U.R.A. Fever” by The Kills because apparently this vid has joined song and show inextricably in my mind

Summary: In which Harvey breaks his arm and Mike has a caretaker streak as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Posting before I lose courage. This was way too hard to write for such fluff, y’all, for reasons that are unclear to me. Maybe it’s the telepathy, but Charles is so much more difficult for me to write than Erik. Though I do love a character who can make endless literary allusions. I didn’t mean it to be quite the h/c porn that it is. It’s not porn—there’s hardly even any touching—but, well, porn just the same.

Title: Every Man His Lion
Fandom: XMFC
Rating: PG, gen, even if it is quite slashy gen.
Characters: Charles, Erik.
Genre: shameless h/c.
Warnings/Spoilers: n/a, though it is a missing scene for the movie, I guess—slotting in after the “there’s more to you than that” scene.
Word Count: ~2.6K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: For this prompt over at Running Hot, and for the “trust issues” square on my [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card. And kind of because [livejournal.com profile] norgbelulah wondered where the all comfort was in the other XMFC fic I wrote.

Summary: Erik is ill. Charles tries to help him sleep.

Huh. This seems to be my coda for 1.24. It’s pretty oblique, but there are spoilers.

Title: Kaikua’ana
Rating: PG
Genre: h/c
Characters: Jenna, Kono.
Word count: ~2.6K
Spoilers/warnings: takes place after 1.24
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit.

a/n: written for [livejournal.com profile] jesseofthenorth’s prompt at Running Hot. Originally posted there.

Summary: The only man she’d ever loved was dead. Her mother was all the way home in Cupertino. And the most badass woman she knew was smoothing her hair back from her face with gentle hands.

Just a long weekend meme PSA. Prompting and prompt filling are still very much open at Running Hot. I think four fills came in yesterday.

Take another looks at the Masterlist, too! fills have come in this week for Dr. Who, The Professionals, Magnificent Seven, SGA and Human Target, as well as more for Sherlock, White Collar, H50 and SPN.

And there are prompts up for more fandoms than I can remember, including Chuck, Merlin, Camelot, Leverage, Prison Break and Castle.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, folks!
