Ah, this is what libraries are for! So you can check things out, read a page or two, then return them, no harm done!
Though sometimes, as with The Round House, you have to return them when you are only partway done. Must fix that.
I liked Midnight Riot/Rivers of London! I take it the later ones are even better?
The non-fiction I read this year was pretty scary--I hesitate to actually rec it anybody (though I gave my dad Retribution for Hanukah and he loved it. But I get my love of horrible things from him, I think).
I've never heard of A True Novel--is it a version of Wuthering Heights?
