Crane's little stunt with the malaria was a little *too* successful---he's given himself a nasty case that the medicines aren't quite touching! The doctors say he's going to be fine, but it will take a while for his immune system to overcome the parasite. Meanwhile, he's shacked up on Abbie's couch riding out waves of shaking chills, sweating, nausea and raging fever.
My entire mortal soul if his nightmares are all about losing Abbie, and when he wakes up and sees her beside him he's moved to tears of relief.
