You know, I always saw that ring as an emergency source of silver hee! He's always so prepared, Dean--he's like a boyscout or something.
But those bracelets always struck me as a strange choice. Way too much chance of them catching on something at a bad moment. Good point. But maybe it's like the way Daphne always has dental floss in her purse on Scooby Doo, and whips it out in emergencies and does something awesome with it...
In all seriousness, though, I can't see it as entirely sad thing that they've separated for a while--if only because the possibility isn't hanging over their heads now...And we do see a literally lighter Dean at the end of episode...
