The Remix Redux 11: The Eleventh Hour archive went live last night! You can find the main collection here, and the Remix Madness collection here. I love this challenge for its mix of fandoms--you never know what people will pull up to work on.

I was excited to get two of my stories remixed, one as part of the main challenge, one as part of the madness:

This is a remix of a sick!Neal story I wrote in 2011, and it gives Alex's POV on the proceedings. I'm thrilled, because I love Alex, and I stuck her in the story with the vague sense that she fit the role she had to play best, but without fleshing out her motivation or actions. This fic does all of that, while giving an excellent, tough, slightly jaded, but still engaged Alex voice.

This is a remix of a Sherlock/Mary fuck-or-die fic I wrote just a few months ago, and I'm tickled to death someone remixed it, with its odd pairing and off-putting scenario. I wrote the fic for a 24-hour turnaround challenge, and in consequence it lacks a lot of detail. The remix fixes all that, plus provides Mary's POV on things. The characterization of Mary, as a badass, brilliant operative, is fantastic, and the dub-con is very hot (if you like that kind of thing, which I do).

So, yeah, go read them!

I also wrote two fics for the challenge, one my assignment and one a pinch-hit. Both are, I think, immediately obvious as mine if you're thinking about it. If anyone is reading in the collection and has a (correct) guess about them, I will write you something fannish of your choosing after the reveals (fic, meta, recs, playlist, etc.). Hint: both are in fandoms I've written in before.

Ficcery (cool things I got)

I've been meaning to do this forever!

I've done two fic exchanges in the past month or so, and totally lucked out with fics I got for my prompts--so I wanted to pass along the links.

For the awesome xover_exchange multifandom exchange, the very talented auctorial chose the pairing I suggested that I thought was the least likely to be taken up: Thirteen/ Morgana (House/Merlin) and wrote a gorgeous meditation on mortality and immortality (with added lovely femslash): Half Sick of Shadows (R).

And even though my fic for the whitecollarswap won't go up 'til Wed., I've already gotten this lovely fic from rabidchild67: Where is my Mind. It takes up the prompt "The anklet develops some spooky extra powers: it starts transmitting Neal's thoughts and/or feelings--but only to Peter" and does an absolutely delightful job with it. (nc-17 for a brief smutty scene).

AND: annonwrites remixed my fic "Lost Saints" as Lost Tides for the Dean-focused remix challenge over at hoodie_time. It's only the second time someone has remixed one of my fics, and it's so cool to see what a change in POV can do!

Finally: over on AO3, Helga Winter has translated "Catching Waves on Dry Land" (the H50 gun!kink one) into Russian!. Even though I can't read a word, I'm amazed and flattered by this!

Dean w/o Sam recs (plus 1 White Collar and 2 Sherlock)

Hi Folks:

My third rec post for spnroundtable is here: 5 fics featuring Dean w/o Sam--1 pre-series; 3 Stanford-era; one post-S3 AU (all but one are gen).

It was a really busy week, and I feel like I have a million White Collar and Sherlock fics I've been meaning to read open in tabs. Here are a couple of short things, though:

White Collar

We Protect Our Own by anon. (Found via jrosemary's wonderful White Collar Fixation blog) (GEN)

This is a fanfic trope--character X has previous experience of child pornography--that I usually steer well clear of--it can be such an easy excuse for gratuitous angst and magical-fixit h/c. But--it makes more sense for Neal than it does for many characters, and this piece is really nicely done--with an emphasis on procedure, and what it's like to live with difficult experiences, rather than making them magically go away. The interactions between Peter and Neal are perfectly IC.

Sherlock

Okay, I know there's a fandom preference for asexual!Sherlock--and there are plenty of reasons--both in canon and in BC's performance--for going with that. I've read a lot of great fic along those lines.

However, there is a kind of counter-current for a sexually greedy, toppy Sherlock, which I have to admit I enjoy the heck out of. Here are two short pieces that explore that characterization:

Innominate by accede (NC-17).

Covert groping at the Chinese Circus in 1.02. Beautifully written and blazing hot.

Timeline by entangled_now (NC-17)

Writing on the body. Gorgeous! (and if you haven't been reading entangled_now's Sherlock fic, may I suggest you start? The ratings range from pg to nc-17, and the character work is amazing!)

Recs: 4 J2 h/c; 1 Sherlock; 1 White Collar (and Merlin)

Hi Folks:

My second spnroundtable rec post is here: this one is all J2 non-AU h/c (a seemingly specialized but actually vast subgenre--I'm sure I've left your favorites out!).

And since this seems a good place to share some other recs:

1. Two Pairs of Hands by chainsaw_poet (on AO3) (Sherlock, John, Mycroft--pg)
Even if you don't like malaria!fic as much as I do, this is a funny and sweet piece of h/c. (and if you do like malarial!Watson, it's a real treat to see it done for the 21st century!).

2. I've finally seen the summer White Collar finale (2.09). Dang, that was good! Let me see if I can sum up my feelings in a non-spoiler-y was:

* flail * Neal's hair * Peter's voice * Neal's smudges * bites nails until January *

I've read one gorgeous coda for the ep.:

In little rooms in buildings in the middle by lowriseflare (pg, gen)

3. I've also finally seen the Merlin S3 premiere. And, well....I enjoyed it, even though there seemed to be a lot of hooey mixed in with the good stuff. I have to say that as much as I adore Colin Morgan, and worry excessively about whether he's getting enough to eat, I am, as always, far more interested in Arthur. The Merlin story arc is too much of a will-he-won't-he (reveal his magic), either/or set-up. Whereas the Arthur story arc--will he (how will he) give up his prattishness and learn to be a great king?--makes room for actual character development.

I don't keep up with Merlin fic, but if you've read anything good, let me know!

fly-by recs (Sherlock, White Collar)

We're leaving tomorrow for Vancouver--last trip of the summer, thank goodness! Everyone cross their fingers that the random forces of fate let my path cross Jensen Ackles's. Y'know, in a coffee shop or something. It could happen, right?

Two quick fic recs before I go:

I've been doing a crap job of keeping up with the fic-splosion of the shiny new Sherlock fandom, although I have some things saved on delicious (with the Sherlock2010 tag)--mostly excellent fics by well-known writers.

But today I read the most touching fanfic I've read for a long time, The Hour of Separation by vegarin. John-centric, set after 1.03, and aside from being emotionally rich it does a lovely job of melding book!canon and Sherlock!canon.

Also for those you who like White Collar h/c, bibliothekara posted an excellent, short fill for my request for "Peter. Appendicitis" at the whitecollarhc fic meme: Corollary Alpha: part one and part two . Among its pleasures is a great Jones POV.
