Happy new year, everyone!

Much to my surprise, I ended up writing two things for Yuletide. I didn't sign up, because I didn't have time to write a letter, much less write a gift. But things lightened up in mid-December, and I snagged a late pinch hit and wrote a treat.

I stole time away from family and work to write these and...it felt pretty good! Can't say it'll happen again before next Yuletide, but it was nice while it lasted.

Here's the pinch hit. I was just thinking about this movie when it came up, and oh boy did it stand up to a (third or fourth) re-watch. My second fic in this fandom.

Contend with the Living Blues (1837 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Warrior (2011)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Tommy Conlon, Frank Campana, Brendan Conlon
Additional Tags: Pre-Slash, Tattoos
Summary:
Saints preserve him from Conlons, Frank thought, especially this one.

As for the treat: I guess it was just a matter of time before I wrote a story about my namesake, huh? I got hit by a plot bunny for this angle on the story, and couldn't shake it, though I only finished it for madness. It's still a little rough.

Naufrage (1863 words) by ariadnes_string
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Greek and Roman Mythology, Cretan Labyrinth Stories (Greek Mythology)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ariadne/Dionysus, Ariadne/Theseus
Characters: Ariadne (Greek and Roman Mythology), Dionysus, Theseus (Greek and Roman Mythology)
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Drug Use
Summary:
In the Mediterranean, many are lost, but some are found.

(I'm not commenting on LJ anymore, so if you're reading there and want to comment, come to DW)

comments

So, here's what happened: I posted a few Warrior prompts over at the Running Hot II post. Then I got curious, and decided to rewatch the movie. And then, I found myself liking it even more than I had the first time, and writing fic. In answer to one of my own prompts. It happens, right?

Title: On the Plains of Troy
Fandom: Warrior (2011)
Genre: gen, h/c, future!fic
Rating: PG-13 (for language)
Warnings: something like suicidal ideation
Disclaimer: These characters belong to their creators and I am making no profit from this work.
a/n: Set in my favorite fanonical version of life after the movie, in which Tommy lives near Brendan and Tess and trains with Frank.
a/n: written for my own prompt (I know, I know) at Running Hot II
a/n: many thanks to frackin_sweet for the extremely helpful beta.

Summary:

Three, four times blessed, my friends-in-arms
Who died on the plains of Troy those years ago,
Serving the sons of Atreus to the end.
Did anything happen in H50 2x06 except Steve getting in the ring? 'Cause I saw him put that mouth guard in, and start hopping up and down like a bunny, and then I started thinking about this:

And wondering if Steve would get anybody in an unbreakable thigh lock and force them to tap out like Joel Edgerton does repeatedly in the movie. And then I started wondering what would happen if Steve had to fight either Tommy or Brendan. And. Yeah....I kinda lost track.

I guess other things happened? The boys were pleased to see Kono with a rifle.

( Homeland 1x04 spoilers )

comments

Just back from my book club where we discussed Wolf Hall -- but more about that tomorrow, for now....

frackin_sweet and linaerys , I blame you!

I had one of my boy-free weekends, and my friend K. bailed on our plan to see Moneyball. So, I decided take myself to see Warrior at its single showing at the one theater where it was still playing (no, I was not the only person there—there were five of us!)

( mild spoilers for the movie )

Also, I saw a preview for a movie in which Matt Bomer and Justin Timberlake inhabit the same screen. 0_0

comments
