Happy New Year, everyone!

I'm back in the land of the speaking and readjusting to my life among the small rambunctious creatures, who are...not that small anymore. I'm trying to put together a post about the silent retreat, which was both very good and very interesting.

In the meantime, here are the stories I wrote for Yuletide this year, with a little bit of DVD commentary. First, though, a huge thank you to [profile] garry_owen for beta'ing two of these at the eleventh hour!

(I had a crappy week the week before Christmas, and I drowned some of my anxiety in fic writing. I think the stories may have been more therapeutic for me than enjoyable for readers. Hopefully 2013 will be better).

Because I was away and internet-free most of last week, I haven't read all that much in the archive--but here's a story I loved that I haven't seen on any of the rec lists. I know a bunch of you loved Cloud Atlas as a book or a movie, and if you've been craving more Frobisher/Sixsmith, this will hit the sweet spot--so lyrical, so true to the characters and the era.

Grace Notes (1638 words) by just_ann_now
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Robert Frobisher/Rufus Sixsmith
Characters: Robert Frobisher, Rufus Sixsmith, Original Male Character

Thirty years after Frobisher’s death, Sixsmith finally has the opportunity to talk about him to someone who truly understands.

Okay--more on other things later!

It occurred to me that I haven’t said anything about the last three episodes of Camelot, despite the fact that I’ve enjoyed them more than one probably should. But this week’s episode had me snort-chortling at my screen at least three times, probably three and a half, so I thought I’d remedy things.

I know y'all've been waiting with baited breath. I will try to be as succinct as possible.

1.07: The Long Night.

I dunno. Say all you want about Game of Thrones, but I think I’d back Eva Green’s Morgan any day over Lena Headey’s Cersei in the battle of the Voluptuous Evil Queens.

Okay, it's Camelot day here at the island of conclusions, brought to you by the enabling mojo of the Five Acts meme. Yes, this fic (straight-up PWP) does replicate something from the show, but only because it's the kind of image I just couldn't get out of my head.

Title: Am I not your Queen?
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Merlin/Igraine.
Word count: ~1.2K
Warnings: mild bondage/power play
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit

a/n: written for [ profile] zelda_zee for the 5 Acts Meme: round four.

Summary: “Do not think of power, then.” She led him to the wide bed, laid him down on its velvet and brocade coverings. “Think only of those things that lie between a man and a woman.”

The strangest thing about Camelot this week was that the episode was made up of three stories, and I actually found one of them genuinely enjoyable and interesting. Still bizarre, of course, but kind of touching for all that.

Let’s take that one first, shall we?

Some lovely and generous soul wrote Coming Awake for Remix Madness! It's a remix of my 4.22 coda, Coming Untied. It switches things to Dean's POV, and does a wonderful job of bringing out aspects of his emotional situation I hadn't really even thought about. Thank you, anon!!

So, I have, but haven't watched yet, the latest episodes of H50, SPN and Game of Thrones (though I have watched the promos for H50 1.23, because omfg!)

I'm quite spoiler-philic, though, so don't worry about talking about them in comments.

I have, however, watched the fifth episode of Camelot. Why? idek--maybe I just needed to watch something with zero emotional investment...

If one had for some reason ignored the gentle reminders from one's flist that there is actually good TV out there if one is interested in watching TV and gone ahead and watched the latest episode of Camelot anyway, one would have seen...

But no one would be foolish enough to waste their time on stuff like that, would they?

So, I don't have too many hours to myself on the weekends, and yet I somehow managed to spend one of those hours watching an episode of Starz's new Camelot. Has anyone else done this? I wouldn't recommend it, though it did make me gape and chortle at the screen a few times.
